How to install a ring door bell
1. Check What’s in the Box
Your Ring Doorbell package should include:
- The Ring Doorbell unit
- A mounting bracket
- Screws and anchors
- A screwdriver and drill bit
- A level tool
- Charging cable (for battery models)
- Wire extenders and connectors (for wired models)
2. Charge the Battery (Battery Models Only)
- If you have a battery-powered Ring Doorbell, charge it fully using the included USB cable until the light turns solid green.
3. Download the Ring App and Create an Account
- Install the Ring app on your smartphone (iOS or Android).
- Sign in or create a Ring account.
- Tap “Set Up a Device” and select “Doorbells.”
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your device to Wi-Fi.
4. Turn Off Power (Wired Models Only)
- If you are replacing an existing wired doorbell, turn off power at the breaker to avoid electric shock.
5. Choose the Mounting Location
- Pick a spot near your door at about 4 feet (1.2 meters) high.
- Use the included level tool to ensure the doorbell is straight.
- If mounting on brick, concrete, or stucco, use the included wall anchors.
6. Install the Mounting Bracket
- Align the bracket with your chosen location.
- Mark the drill holes with a pencil.
- Drill pilot holes if necessary.
- Secure the bracket with screws.
7. Connect the Wires (Wired Models Only)
- Attach your existing doorbell wires to the screws on the back of the Ring device.
- If the wires are too short, use the included wire extenders.
8. Attach the Ring Doorbell
- Hook the top of the Ring Doorbell onto the bracket.
- Snap the bottom in place.
- Secure it with the included security screws using the provided screwdriver.
9. Restore Power and Test
- Turn power back on (for wired models).
- Open the Ring app and check the video feed.
- Press the doorbell to test notifications.
10. Adjust Settings in the Ring App
- Motion Detection: Set up motion zones to reduce false alerts.
- Notification Settings: Customize how you receive alerts.
- Linked Devices: Connect to Alexa or other smart home devices.
Troubleshooting
- If the Ring Doorbell doesn’t turn on, recharge the battery or check wiring connections.
- If the video feed is poor, move your Wi-Fi router closer or use a Wi-Fi extender.
- If the doorbell doesn’t ring inside, check if you need a Ring Chime (for battery models).
